Spring Racing and Other Fun News

On February 9th I ran the Runner’s Den Pancake Run 5k in 17:01, winning the women’s race. I was SO nervous to run a 5k! I hadn’t run one since the Carlsbad 5000 in April of 2012 where I ran my PR 16:59. Running a 17:01 having done barely any race-specific speed work has made me pretty optimistic of what I will be able to accomplish this Spring. I will say this though…5k’s hurt SO bad! I probably should not have gone out so fast either. Pain.Train. Here are my splits.

The weekend after that, I went out to San Diego with Matt and my training partner JT to run the inaugural UT San Diego 10/20 race. It was a 10 miler and I felt pretty good going in. I thought that since I had run 56:33 at the 10 mile mark at the Houston Half Marathon Championships, I would be able to run somewhere near that on the hilly course in San Diego. Woof! Was I wrong! I felt pretty much awful.  I started too fast in hopes of staying with the top 3 girls and then it was a solo effort. I came in fourth with a time of 58:40. I made some $, so all in all it was a learning experience and a fun trip. Kudos to the race for offering great prize money and bonuses!

To be completely transparent, here are my Garmin splits. Ouch.

Nightly cuddling. Matt does not let my running interfere with his beer drinking.

Whoa!!! Speedy lady nice job on that 5K Ari. You need to sprinke some of you pixie dust on me lol Gasparilla was cruel to me once again but I’m looking for redemption in the late spring and I’m doing some tweaks to my training to get back to form. Looks like you got some exciting spring race ahead of you. I can’t wait to see how you do!! I’m working up my race schedule currently, I’m excited about the events I’m going to be running.

Hi Lee! Thanks! I hear Gasparilla was pretty hot and humid this year. Yikes! I know you will get your redemption, you are one hard worker!

Yep, sure was! The air was thick enough to cut it with a knife ugh! I’ve started dusting myself off and have put Gasparilla behind me. I havce created a nice race schedule that has me racing with more at the end of the year. I’m really excited about it! Thanks for the vote of confidence Ari, it means a lot!!! :)

Woot Woot! Congrats on winning the pain train 5k, haha. I experience a whole different kind of nervousness before a 5k. You might have felt awful during the 10k, but you looked awesome. Those were great racing pics! Can’t wait to listen to your podcast, how fun. And that cappucino looks so foamy and delicious :) Gussie is getting so big! Gosh, I love dog pictures. I’m excited to read about all your races coming up!

Congrats on an awesome 5K! I’m not a fan of them either – they hurt! And I’m downloading the podcast now for my long run this morning. :) thanks for sharing. Best of luck with your spring races!
